Villagers are reminded that the Gala starts at the new time of 12noon on the field. The parade will start out from the Black Bull half an hour earlier this year at 11.30am.

Ideas for additional centre field entertainment are still being discussed, but a show by professional BMX riders has already been booked, as have the popular Batala Drummers and a flying display by birds of prey. Other attractions include the Rodeo Bull, Gyroscope and Bungee Trampoline.

The Gala Committee recently held its AGM. The following officers were elected:- John Hall - Chairman; Louise Stevens - Secretary; Karen Dickinson - Treasurer. The Committee had just doubled in size with arrival of eight new members. The Vicar at St Paul's the Rev Pollit has agreed to be the Gala President.

Plans have started to be made for our next Gala which will take place on Saturday 12th June 2010. The fancy dress theme will be "Green Planet" covering things such as going green, the environment, recycling, green energy etc.

The Committee gave three Donations of £300, one for £200 and one for £100. Total £1200. We had hoped this year’s Gala would cover the cost of the above expenditure, but unfortunately it did not, due to the weather on the day. The gate money in 2008 was £3,620, this year £2,670 so £1000 down on last year.

Many thanks to all of you who visited the Caton & Brookhouse Gardening Club stand. We had a great day and a very good response to our competitions.

We have had 8 years of good weather, so we were due for a change, and we got one. The Gala was Excellent, the floats Fantastic again, five floats that were first class. A big Thank You to everyone involved for your time, effort and enthusiasm. The Entertainment was Brilliant, and a good day was had by everyone who weathered the wind and cold.

Our Gala day is nearly upon us. Hope you are all ready with your fancy dress costumes and dressed up bikes in the theme of space to join the parade. The 2009 parade will be led by the Batalan Drummers followed by the Gala Queen Holly Mills and her attendants Megan Abra, Faye Ridgway, Reece Lennon and Adam Burkhart.
