Visit to France 30 Oct - 2nd Nov 2008

Following the highly successful visit of our French guests from our twin village of Socx in April, we are now planning our return trip to France at the end of October. Everybody – English and French alike – who took part in the events here of last April greatly enjoyed them. It was good to renew the acquaintances we had made last year, and a pleasure to show our visitors what this part of the world has to offer. Few of them had been to the North of England before, and all of them left after a very convivial weekend with excellent impressions of the area and, we hope, of our hospitality.

Our October return visit will be from Thursday, 30 October to Sunday, 02 November. Socx is in northern France, about ten miles south-east of Dunquerque, very close to the Belgian border. The area has many WW II historical sites, which there will be opportunities to visit, and is itself a historically rich and fascinating part of France. Yet it is not well known by English visitors because they usually hurry through it without stopping, on the way to points much further south.

Our visit has been timed to coincide with the autumn half-term holiday in the hope that more people from here will be able to go (children will be very welcome). We intend to hire a coach to take us all as one party. The cost of this is likely to be in the region of £85 per person: the more that go, the less the cost will be. Other costs will be very small, since in France we will be accommodated in the homes of Socx residents, and we are certain to be very well fed and looked after while we are there.

If you would like to make new friends in a different country, and at the same time enjoy local beer, wine and other gastronomic delights, please do think of coming with us. We can promise you a brilliant weekend. It is by no means necessary to be able to speak French in order to go. Most of our French counterparts can manage some English, and even where that is not so, communication has never so far proved a problem.
