Caton Gala - 7th June 2008
Our Gala day is nearly upon us. Hope you are all ready with your fancy dress and ready to enjoy a day of fun.
Entertainment for the day includes Birds of Prey display, children’s races and football match, fell race, space hopper race, Pet Show, Car Boot, Rodeo Bull, Bungi Trampoline, Gyroscope, bouncy castles, mini assault course – tickets for these will be available from the ‘Ticket Gazebo’. A range of refreshments will be available from hog roast, ice cream, burgers, hot dogs, teas, cakes and sandwiches and smoothies. There will be a tombola stall, craft tent with a range of stalls plus much more.
The parade for this year will be led by the Batalan Drummers followed by the Gala Queen Megan Gosling and her attendants Izzy Walker, Nancy Heeks and William Minchom . Then comes the fancy dress floats and dressed up bikes prizes for both of these are - 1st prize £15, 2nd prize £10 and 3rd prize £5, then comes individuals in fancy dress with prizes of 1st prize £5, 2nd prize £3 and 3rd prize £2.
Don’t forget to enter the raffle, 1st prize is a 2 night stay for 2 people in a privately owned B&B in the Lakes with indoor pool, steam room and tennis court courtesy of Bardon Concrete..
Important Health & Safety issues regarding floats:-
In order that the Gala meets health and safety guidelines we are required to ask each group who is organising a float to ensure the safety of those riding on the vehicle and just as important the safety of people watching the event. Please can we ask you to arrange to have 4 people who walk along aside the float, one at each corner, to make sure no-one gets too close to the vehicle and we prevent any accidents. So the ‘marshals’ are clearly visible please could you arrange for them to either wear a ‘High Viz bright coloured jacket’ or any item of a bright colour so they stand out. A particular tricky time is when the floats enter the field as the entrance makes it a tight fit. We realise parents of the children want to walk alongside, however please can we ask you all to allow the floats to enter the field first prior to yourselves.
