Victoria Institute Improvements
An Aggregates Levy grant, administered by Lancashire County Council, has provided the Victoria Institute with funding for progressing architect plans for the next stage of refurbishments; quantity surveyor costings of each part to support further grant applications; and a full appraisal of energy efficiency and renewable possibilities for the building.
As some of our users know, the replacement of the complex, ageing heating system is urgent. It has been increasingly difficult to control temperatures, especially in the main hall, to suit the comfort of all types of users. It has been immensely frustrating to have overheating! But control of this problem may have left a few users a bit chilly. Two powerful ‘emergency’ heaters are now available should a boost be needed. The energy report should be ready by the time you read this, and we shall be urgently seeking grants for the recommended form of central heating for the new system. Hopefully all users will be enjoying this by the time the cold weather returns this winter.
