Caton Church Scout Group
District Camping and Skills Competition - September at Silverhelm. Friday night to late on Sunday afternoon. Setting up the camp in the dark which they did quite well on. After breakfast on Saturday, Judging on Site Layout, Camp Gadgets and a Clean Site, and other things. They received average marks. The overall position was 5th. The conservation project was on Bats, and although we thought it a good one it did not seem to go down too well.
District Night Activity - November 23rd. This is the most popular event run by the District. Map References are used to travel a route of approx 11 miles with 19 bases along the route where questions are asked on various aspects of Scouting, General Knowledge, Birds and Animals and Road Safety. The event started and finished at Halton Scout H.Q. and in all 23 teams took part, Junior, Senior and Explorer Scout units. Our Junior team managed 17 bases and came second with 121 points. Well done team, Jack, Amy, Lawrence and James.
District Swimming Team - Congratulations to Jack Atkinson who was picked to take part in the county (West Lancs) Swimming Gala for the Helm Shield at Leyland. Unfortunately Lonsdale did not win, but it was a great honour for him as part of our group to be included in the team.
Chief Scout’s Gold Award. Congratulations to Henry Newallon on gaining this award which is the highest which can be achieved in the 10.5 - 14 year age group. Well done, it is quite a long time since we had our last. The presentation took place in the George Fox Lecture Theatre at Lancaster University by the Ex High Sherriff of Lancaster as the current Sherriff was unavailable. As Henry is now over 14 he has now left us and is currently enjoying a different and more adventerous form of Scouting in one of the District’s Explorer Scout Units in Lancaster.
John Ainsworth. Leader Helper.
