A section of the A683, or Lancaster Road, will close from 6am to 6pm, or until the bridge supporting an old overhead pully system is demolished.
A spokesman for Hanson plc, which owns the Claughton brick works, said: "There are currently two rope-ways crossing the road. One has not been used for nearly 20 years, that is the one that will be coming down.
"The bridge supporting this old system must be removed for safety reasons."
Traffic will be diverted on to surrounding roads including the M6, A6, A65 and B6254.
Pedestrian access to properties will also be restricted.
