Three held after third raid on Caton Co-operative store

Three men were arrested following a police chase after the Co-op in Caton was burgled for the third time in a month.

A fourth is still being hunted by officers after the alarm at the Hornby Road store was activated at 1.20am on Tuesday.

Police raced to the scene and saw a red Seat Leon car speeding off.

Its details were circulated and it was spotted exiting the M6 at junction 31 where it joined the A59 and headed into Blackburn.

It sped off towards a housing estate where it was found abandoned.

Four people left the car, which was later found to have been stolen from Manchester in October, and split up across nearby fields.

A police helicopter and dogs were deployed and three men were arrested.

A large amount of cigarettes were seized from the car and a crowbar was found close by.

The men are aged 38, 21 and 22 and from Manchester.

All three were held in connection with the burglary and the 38-year-old was arrested on suspicion of taking a motor vehicle without consent and dangerous driving.

Police are still investigating break-ins at the shop on January 28 and 30.
