Cottam Trust

The Trustees would like to make another distribution from the trust funds held on the trusts of the Wills of the Edward Cottam and his sister Alice.

The Trustees are required to use the trust income for the benefit of:  ‘poor and deserving persons aged 50 years or over who have resided within the parish of Caton with Littledain the County of Lancaster for at least five years and are still resident at the date of the application’.

For many years, Caton St Paul’s School has provided a home for the Lune Valley Pre School Centre.  However rising pupil numbers mean that the school now needs to use this room itself from September 2019.  So the Pre School Centre is now looking at alternative premises.

Neighbourhood Plan Update: January 2018

The Neighbourhood Plan Steering Group met on 15th January.  There has been some progress recently.  As we reported in the autumn, developers have put forward a number of potential housing sites in our parish, and we will have to consider them using a “Site Allocation Approach”.   This will have more strength than our previous approach to the issue.  Planning Officers have already visited all the proposed sites, with two members of our Steering Group walking round with them.  Independent landscape assessors will determine the impact on and capacity of the landscape for development here.   We

Caton Leisure Club

Monday 4th December Caton Leisure Club held their Christmas Celebration. There was a bright, happy and hopeful atmosphere as the day started with a Christmas themed quiz. Everyone sorted themselves into teams of 3 or 4 and hoped they would be able to answer the 60 questions and have bragging rights as the winners. Even if we didn’t know the answers we all came away having learnt something new. This was followed by a sumptuous buffet, the highlight of which was the fantastic Christmas cake provided by The Crazy Cake Company in Caton. Jolly good it was too.

Emergency Planning
How prepared you are for the next emergency. What do you need to fix after the rain and wind in October and November? Next time  it could be floods, high winds, snow, power cuts...  You can have bad weather alerts sent to you by the Met Office as emails or texts - ask Peter Collins at the Victoria Institute for help setting these up if need be.
How ready are you and those you care for?
Get prepared well ahead - perhaps trimming back branches and checking drains when the weather is OK.
