News - Caton Gala Committee

The meeting was held on 10th September and the Committee were voted in en-bloc. The treasurer gave us an up to date view of our finances, and from this information we gave the following organisations a donation:- The Scouts; St Paul’s PTA; St Paul’s Pre-School; Churches Together, and Caton Cricket Club. We also purchased 10 new tables and 70 new chairs.

What a fantastic day, and a record crowd, great entertainment, and good company.

I would like to thank the Schools, and Pre-Schools, plus Churches Together for the fantastic floats. Big thank you Mums and Dads, they looked so good it was hard to pick a winner.

Our Gala day is nearly upon us. Hope you are all ready with your fancy dress and ready to enjoy a day of fun.

In 2006 we were asked to vacate our store in Copy Lane, so United Utilities could sell it for development. We received £10,000 compensation, so we could rent or buy a store for our Gala equipment. The Gala Committee were approached by the Committee restoring the old Scout Hut for financial help, and offering storage facilities if need for our Gala equipment.

Our plans are progressing well for the event and we hope yours are to, for the floats, fancy dress bikes and another other fancy dress entries remember the theme is ‘Animals’. To add to the attractions we mentioned in the December’s Link we have also booked the Rodeo Bull, bouncy castle assault course and a gyroscope.

This year’s theme of ‘Animals’ has been chosen by pupils who attend our 2 local primary schools. From Caton St Paul’s - Abigail Allen, Kaite Gott, Morgan Gott, Rebekah Preece and Izzy Walker, and from Caton Community Primary - Megan Abra, Joe Genna, Erin Gosling, Sean Milligan, and Hannah Pican.

Any local organisations that would like to raise funds, we have the burger stall, tombola, teas and cakes and ice cream for you to run. Contact John Hall on 770682 if you are interested.

We are going to have the craft tent again next year. Anybody interested in having a stall contact Janette Rawcliffe on 770196.

I think you are fantastic, put up with all types of strain and stress, and through it all come up with a big smile. I could not exist without you.
