Once again this year Caton St Pauls Church Beavers, Cubs and Scouts are hoping to raise funds by delivering your cards this Christmas. We deliver locally as well as to Lancaster, Morecambe and most surrounding villages (See poster in shops for details of areas not covered, including Quernmore and Cockerham this year). Stamps cost only 30p - half the price of Royal Mail First Class.
At the meeting held on 14 October the council voted unanimously to close Claughton Parish Council by March 2014. This decision was unanimous and was based on a lack of local interest and support and the absence of any candidates to fill current vacancies (that of Clerk and two – soon to be three – Councillors) despite extensive advertising of these vacancies.
Hornby Community Swimming Pool has two new Aquacise fitness classes to help local people keep trim and in shape this winter. The classes take place on Tuesday evenings (8pm to 9pm) and Wednesday mornings (10am to 11am). The small and friendly classes are run by a fully qualified instructor and are open to everyone of any fitness level.
Rotary District 1911's current District Governor's preferred charity for this year is to identify where defibrillators are in all the Distict's local areas if possible and to establish how accessible they are. He is keen to increase the number of defibrillators in our communities and to support the essential work of our First Responders and our Search and Rescue teams.
A Festival of Nine Carols. The Caton St Paul’s Christmas Choir will be singing carols in the village on 17th December. (weather permitting) If you would like them to sing for someone you know at their home please contact Anne Jackson 771551. If anyone would like to join us they will be made very welcome. We will not be collecting donations.
In the last edition of “The Link” we announced that the theme for the Gala would be “Vikings”. We have given this matter further consideration; as we are keen to, where possible, have local connections. Although only a slight alteration we have decided that the theme for the 2014 Gala will be “Katti-tun Gala”!
A Celebrate Your Space award for a wonderful family day based on the play park, featuring a huge Bouncy Bonaza with free food, and village Chocolate Hunt with chocy prizes for all on Fell View, is planned for Saturday 9th November. But we await final confirmation, and alternative date if the weather is unsuitable for the inflatable fun. So watch for publicity!
We have been working on a theme. Given the long history of the settlement of Caton and in order to link with one of our attractions we have decided that the theme for the 2014 Gala will be “Vikings”. This should give plenty of opportunities for fancy dress costumes and even the creation of a few long ships! One of the functions of the Gala is to support local good causes.
Half-term is already upon us and many will be busy having a good sort out in readiness for our Eco committee’s Textile Recycling morning on Friday 8th November from 8.30-9.15am. Bagged up items can be left outside our school gates, but please, no duvets, dirty overalls or material scraps! Many will also be preparing for Bonfire Night!
Can you believe it’s November already? Where has this year gone and where has our first half term at Caton CPS gone?
