Best Kept Village Awards - 2009

This year BROOKHOUSE has won the Medium Village Class in the Best Kept Village Competition.
Station Garage won the Certificate of Merit in the Shop/Filling Station category and Caton Post Office was Highly Commended.
Census Rehearsal - Sunday 11th October 2009
Submitted by Bruce Alexander on Tue, 06/10/2009 - 6:13am.On Sunday October 11th this year there will be a census rehearsal throughout the Lancaster area. The questionnaires that everyone will be receiving in the post will ask all of the standard census questions however the information is not used in any way.
Allotments Update
Submitted by Bruce Alexander on Tue, 06/10/2009 - 6:21am.The Parish Council is working with the Allotment Group to secure a small piece of land for Allotments. However there is much more demand than we can meet at present and if anybody has any land they would like to put forward we would be interested in hearing from them. There would need to be a commercial arrangement to rent the land and a minimum time period would need to be negotiated.
Fell View Update
Submitted by Bruce Alexander on Tue, 06/10/2009 - 6:15am.A 'Working Group' is being set up to plan the refurbishment of the Fell View Play Area. Several bids for funding have been and will be submitted based on the outline design produced but this is not the final design. There will be opportunities to refine the plan before anything is built and we still need to secure funding.
Gardening Club - October News

At our next meeting, we will have a talk from one of the gardeners from Sizergh Castle.
Caton Pre-School Playgroup - Nearly New Sale

This is a sale of NEARLY NEW children's items such as clothes, toys , books, baby equipment and maternity wear. Admission £1. Friendship Club trip to the Lakes
Submitted by Administrator on Tue, 06/10/2009 - 6:48am.On Thursday October 15th we are heading for the Lakes, calling at Coniston for lunch. After a tour we shall end up at Grasmere for tea and a look round the garden centre and shops. Setting off at 9.30am, home about 6pm. We hope this outing will be well supported. Non-members will be welcome if we have room.

Senior Citizen's Club trip to Liverpool

We hope that you have enjoyed the outings during the season, and are sure that you will enjoy Liverpool. There are lots of things to do and see there.
WI Coffee Morning in aid of Cancer Care

Victoria Institute Christmas Fayre

Fund Raising Dance for the Victoria Institute

Victoria Institute - Wine Tasting Evening

Caton Community Primary and Caton Preschool Playgroup

It will be an opportunity to see the school and preschool in action and meet the staff. Ms Cadwallender, our new Headteacher, will be available to show people around and answer any questions. It is an open invitation to any parents who wish to come along with their children and see what we have to offer.
Life for a Life Memorial Forest - Crook O’Lune

Having taken the advice of our forestry and landscape advisers we have identified an area between the existing planting and Scarthwaite Wood.

Twinning Group Wine Tasting Evening - Open to All
Submitted by Ruth Gibbons on Tue, 06/10/2009 - 7:23am.We are planning a repeat of our very successful wine tasting evening; this will be on Friday 27th November, and will again be hosted by Barry Howarth of "The Wineyard". The format is expected to be the same as last time, with a fun wine quiz as well as a tutored tasting session.

Are you unhappy with what you are getting out of life?
Submitted by Administrator on Tue, 06/10/2009 - 7:17am.A group is starting on Monday 12th October 2009 11.30am - 2pm in Brookhouse, for 8 weekly sessions. This is a light hearted group for people of all ages over 18 who feel some discontent with what they are getting out of life at the moment. We shall look at dreams and wishes for more balance, fun, intimacy, adventure, calm, direction etc.
