The Link, September 2008, Volume 2008, No. 9

Some of you may be aware of the open space down by the beck next to the Glen and plans to make it into a pleasant woodland glade. We have had a landscape designer produce a plan which will be available for inspection at an open meeting at the Victoria Institute on Tuesday 16th September at 7pm

This year's Gala was a Huge success, we had a record gate of £3620, our sponsors did us proud and provided £1015, a Big Thank You to you all. The total this year was £6847 and the costs £4004. We need to purchase ten new tables and 80 chairs for future galas.

Brookhouse Methodist Church will be hosting an evening with the world famous comedian Bobby Ball on Saturday 27 September 2008 at 7:30pm when he will be telling his life story - so far!!

Admission is free but there will be a voluntary collection on behalf of Vietnamese Street Children during the evening.

Lune Valley Square Dance Club is recruiting new members. On Mondays 22nd and 29th September and 6th October 2008, we are offering free taster sessions at St Paul's Church Hall, New Street, Brookhouse, Lancaster LA2 9JR starting at 8pm. We last recruited two years ago so don't miss this opportunity. The club has a thriving membership from a wide area.

Lune Valley Kids Club, which has provided after school and holiday provision for the children of our villages for a decade at the Victoria Institute, needs new volunteers to manage the Club if it is to survive. Interesting and varied opportunities for helping to run the Club are offered to parents, grandparents, business people, and other community volunteers.

The trip to Manchester will take place on Thursday 25th September, departing from the Victoria Institute at 9.30am. Please see your representative to book your seat. Manchester City Centre has been rebuilt since the bombing so there should be plenty to see.

Lancaster Sword Club are having an Open Evening on Thursday 4th September at the Sports centre Caton Community Primary School from 7.00-9.00pm. All are welcome to come along see what we do, before we begin a new series of beginner courses for children and adults.
