The future of the Caton Youth and Community Centre

The Centre, on Copy Lane, is presently little used. At the moment, income is less than expenditure and the question has been asked as to whether the village still needs the Centre as it exists today.

Gardening Club - February News

Our 125th Anniversary was celebrated in fine style and in convivial company with a sumptuous buffet at the Victoria Institute. A full house enjoyed the food, wine and displays. Thank you all for the support. Pictures of the occasion will be on display at our next meeting.



North West Cancer Research Fund Coffee Morning

The Annual Coffee Morning of the Caton & Halton Group will take place on Saturday 8th March from 10.00am until 12noon at the Victoria Institute. There will be all the usual stalls - Cakes & Produce; New Items; Bric-a-Brac; Books and Games, plus Crafts and Cards and a Raffle. Admission including tea/coffee and home made biscuits will be 75pence.


Have your child's photograph taken at Lune Valley Pre-School Centre

On Tuesday February 12th Lune Valley Pre-School Centre will be have a photographer at the centre. She will be there from 11.30 to approximately 1.00pm. If you would like to have your child’s photograph taken please feel free to pop in whether your child attends Pre-School or not.

Women's Institute February News

The first meeting of 2008 was held on Thursday 3rd January. On a bitterly cold night, it was a very appropriate choice - a presentation from Dennis Walker on the history of the Lofthouse family and Fisherman’s Friends - from the original menthol eucalyptus lozenges to the variety of flavours now marketed in many countries throughout the world. The competition ‘An old



Senior Citizen’s Club Hot-Pot Lunch and Bingo

Friendship Club - February News

We hope you enjoyed the New Years Party. We thank Mrs Gardner of Hornby for providing a wonderful meal for us. 96 members attended. Also in January we had Ms Lawton and Mrs Williams with their show of a collection of ‘Unusual Inscriptions and Memorials’ with music.



Caton Community Primary School PTA

The PTA held its AGM at the school during last term. Katharine Shentall was elected as Chair, Marian (Maz) Ginesi was elected as Secretary. Both were unopposed. Andrea Fawcett continues as Treasurer. After deducting expenses the PTA raised £3139 for the year ending 31st August 2007.


Lost! Graham’s Cough Medicine

There seemed an air of change in Caton Pharmacy in November. Slight alteration to medicine labels, staff having problems with a normally efficient computerised till system. Then in December the ultimate shock. The customer in front asked for Graham’s cough medicine. “We do not have any” was the reply. “Well can you make some up please”.
