The Link, December 2007, Volume 2007

As in previous years the Rotary Club of Lunesdale with Father Christmas on his sleigh will be around Caton and Brookhouse to start the Christmas collection in aid of Charity,. They will be in Caton on Tuesday evening of December 11th and in Brookhouse on Wednesday evening 12th December. Thank you in anticipation.

This year’s theme of ‘Animals’ has been chosen by pupils who attend our 2 local primary schools. From Caton St Paul’s - Abigail Allen, Kaite Gott, Morgan Gott, Rebekah Preece and Izzy Walker, and from Caton Community Primary - Megan Abra, Joe Genna, Erin Gosling, Sean Milligan, and Hannah Pican.

We will be closed over Christmas and return in the New Year. Recently we have secured some further funding that will allow us to extend our activities. May we wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

It was standing room only for Bill Davies’ talk on Gardening under Climate Change. Thanks everyone for attending and thank you Bill for your time.

The Caton & Brookhouse Twinning Group Steering Committee would like to invite you to join them in the Victoria Institute for some French Cheese and Wine on the evening of January 12th between 7.30 & 9.30pm. There is no charge.

The Christmas Party will take place on Thursday 13th December at 5.30pm in the Victoria Institute. There will be a ‘sit down’ meal and afterwards a professional entertainer for your enjoyment. Tickets for the meal are available from your representative.

We were sorry Ruth Winterbottom wasn’t well enough to give her talk and we wish her all the best for 2008. We thank John Brayshaw for stepping in at the last moment. The December meeting is on Thursday 20th at 2.15pm. We are having Mr T. Crawford who will give us a musical afternoon, consisting of magic and illusion.

Only a few weeks to Christmas. Our Christmas Party is on 10th December starting at 1.00pm for our Hot-Pot Lunch.

Our Christmas party was certainly worth venturing out on a very wet and windy evening. After an excellent Jacob's join supper, our speaker, David Cook, spoke about "Humour in Education".  Drawing on anecdotes of his own family and his many years in teaching, he had us in stitches - especially when he read a piece which compared older women to older cars!
