Many thanks to everyone who helped to make "Lights Alive" a great community event around the switch on of the lights of the village Christmas tree, with carols sweetly sung for the crowds by children from Caton Community School.

Thank you to those who supported our Wine Tasting Evening and the quiz based on places in France. No one got all the answers correct but Kath Metcalf was the winner with 48 out of 50 places identified.

BeGreen LowerLune Energy Advice Centre is a not-for-profit community initiative supported by Community Windpower Ltd. The aim of BeGreen LowerLune is to help the local community reduce carbon emissions and fight fuel poverty by offering advice on energy efficiency, finding grants for insulation and how to reduce your energy consumption.

It is likely that over the next two years, Lancaster City Council’s finances will come under increasing pressure. To ensure the council is in a better position to provide efficient and effective services in the future, we are planning now.

The committee have planned a varied programme of events for 2010 not all of which will be held on our usual meeting night so look out for posters or notices in the Link or on the village website.

We are hoping to set up a Home Library Service from Halton Library with door to door delivery on a fortnightly basis of books, talking books, DVDs and Music. The service is intended for local residents who are restricted to their home through age, infirmity or disability. If you know of anyone who would benefit from the service please contact Gina Prill at the library.

On January 21st we have the A.G.M. at 2.15pm in the Victoria Institute. This meeting is free and there will be a raffle. We hope to see you all there especially people who are not members, but would consider joining. Our meetings are held once a month in the Institute on the third Thursday of the month. We would welcome more help on the Committee to help with this very friendly Friendship Club.

We hope you have all had a good Christmas. We start 2010 with our New year’s party on Friday January 8th at 12.30pm for a meal at 1.00pm. This will be followed by entertainment by Arthur and Bill of Autumn Gold. The Party will be over about 4.00pm. We welcome members only.

Annual General Meeting will take place in the Victoria Institute on Thursday 28th January 2010 at 2.00pm. It is important that as many of you as possible attend this meeting. Do try to come along.

To add to our thriving Cub Pack here in Caton, we are looking to start Beavers for children aged 6 - 8 years and re-open our Scout Troop for young people aged 10 1/2 to 14 years. Scouting offers adventure, challenge and fun for boys and girls and we would like to offer this experience to a wider range of young people.
